Latvian Braid Right (to be worked in the round).

Foundation round: k1 MC, k1 CC. Repeat to end.
Main Colour (MC) Contrast Colour (CC)

Round 1: Bring both the working yarns to the front to purl. Lay them loosely over the needle, so that both colours are oriented upwards.

Purl the next st working the same colour stitch with the same coloured yarn. Bring the working yarn over the alternate coloured yarn and holding the alternate working yarn upwards. Purl each st in this manner to end of round.

Round 2: Bring both working yarns forward to purl, orient them downwards.

Purl the next st, working the same colour stitch with the same colour yarn. Bring the working yarn over the alternate coloured yarn and hold the alternate working yarn downwards. Purl each st in this manner to end of round.

Round 3:Knit 1 round MC.

Latvian Braid Left
Work as Latvian Braid Right, but reverse Rounds 1 and 2. Working Round 2 after the Foundation Round, then Round 1 followed by Round 3.
 
Foundation round: k1 MC, k1 CC. Repeat to end.
 
Round 1: Bring both working yarns forward to purl, orient them downwards.
Purl the next st, working the same colour stitch with the same colour yarn. Bring the working yarn over the alternate coloured yarn and hold the alternate working yarn downwards. Purl each st in this manner to end of round.
 
Round 2: Bring both the working yarns to the front to purl. Lay them loosely over the needle, so that both colours are oriented upwards.
Purl the next st working the same colour stitch with the same coloured yarn. Bring the working yarn over the alternate coloured yarn and holding the alternate working yarn upwards. Purl each st in this manner to end of round.
 
Round 3:Knit 1 round MC.
