Make your own deodorant!

I make my own deodorant because I like knowing what's in it.  It doesn't work better than store bought....but it sure has a lot safer ingredients.  Deodorant from the store is cheap and plentiful, so this is one DIY that definitely isn't about saving money.  This recipe makes about 110 grams, depending on how much you manage to scrape out of the pot!  I just mash it all into one large container, but I've reused small store containers before too and yielded several containers full. I've found that I like to use lavender to take the edge off of the tea tree scent.  There is a slight chocolate scent too, from the cocoa butter.

Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons / 24g. Beeswax
4 Tablespoons / 60g. Shea Butter
1 Tablespoon / 50g. Cocoa Butter
4 teaspoons / 20g. Kaolin or Bentonite Clay (I use Kaolin)
25 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
15 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

Measure or weigh beeswax, cocoa butter and shea butter. Chop or grate the beeswax and cocoa butter so that they melt more easily. Add these three ingredients into a double boiler, or a microwaveable container.  Melt over water on medium heat on the double boiler or microwave on high for 1-3 minutes.  Remove from heat. Stir and make sure everything is melted and clear. Add the clay slowly and mix until smooth.   Add oils and mix well.
Next you need to prepare a big bowl of very cold water.  About 2 cup will do and you can add a bit of ice.  Place the container with your deodorant mixture in it, into the ice bath.  Mix as it cools, it will set up quite quickly.  When it's about the consistency of oatmeal, scoop it into the container(s) that you'd like to use.  Let it sit for about 10 minutes then put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes.  Now when it returns to room temperature it's ready to use.
